The Handloom Industry is the biggest and most important cottage industry in India providing employment to large number of people in India after Agriculture. It provides employment in urban and rural areas in various forms. The craftsmanship of Indian weaver is world famous and Indian Handloom Industry was not having trained technical personnel and was solely dependent on the expertise and knowledge passed on from generation to generation for its survival and development. Institutes of Handloom Technology were established by the Government of India with the prime objective of providing technical personnel to the Indian Handloom Industry.
Karnataka Handloom Technology Institute was established in the year 1994. The main object was to provide quality education with superficial skills so that trained technocrats can be provided for Textile sector. Also Karnataka is very famous for manufacturing textile products as such Mysore silk sarees, Ilkal Sarees, Monakalmuru Sarees, Guledagudda Khana, Betageri Silk Sarees, Dhotis etc.
